Hand woven textiles from local Scottish wool

When she's not hosting intrepid explorers with Pablo, Sarah is a keen fibre artist, dedicated to using traditional techniques and locally-sourced materials. At 2 Barremman Cottage you may spot her spinning rustic wool at her wheel, or warping up her loom to weave rugs, runners, scarves and shawls.

Sarah sources her wool from small local farmers, with a particular fancy for Scottish breeds. Each piece she produces is crafted from the ground up, bought as a raw fleece and then hand-spun, washed, dyed and woven into something truly special.

Sarah and Pablo sell their one-of-a-kind creations at Highland Fairs and online via their Etsy shop - perhaps a unique hand-woven piece from Ardbeag will become the perfect souvenir of your stay at 2 Barremman Cottage.

Rugs and Runners

Sarah's home textiles bring a taste of the Highlands to your house. From rustic rugs to table runners and mats, each piece is hand crafted with care from Scottish fleeces, spun, washed, dyed and woven at 2 Barremman Cottage.

Shawls and Scarves

Scotland is known for its dreich and drear weather, so wrapping up warm in the winter is essential. Take a lesson from the Highland sheep and put on one of Sarah's stunning scarves or shawls, made from naturally thermal wool, hand spun and woven from local fleeces.

Tartan

Tartan is one of the most iconic and easily recognised Scottish traditions, and since moving to the Highlands Sarah has been learning about these traditional woven patterns. Taking her inspiration from the colours of the landscape, Sarah creates unique woven pieces in a range of tartan styles.

Varafeldur

Paying homage to Scotland's rich Viking heritage, Sarah has delved into researching and recreating the traditional Icelandic varafeldur - a shaggy great cloak of curly locks worn by Kings and seafarers to keep the elements at bay. These very special cloaks also make excellent throws for the end of a bed, or dramatic wall hangings.
